Dr. Opoku-Akoto attended University of Ghana Medical School and graduated with an MBChB in 2001 and The West African College of Surgeons, Faculty of Anaesthesia, where she obtained a Diploma in Anaesthesia in 2003 after passing the primaries, and a Specialist (Part I) in Anaesthesia in 2006. Since her graduation, Dr. Opoku-Akoto has undertaken several CMEs in various fields of Urgent Patient Care. She worked in Ghana at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where she undertook rotations in Surgery and Paediatrics as a House Officer and in the Department of Anaesthesia from 2002-2006 as an Anaesthetist and in Bermuda at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Internal Medicine for 3 years. She also worked at Hamilton Medical Centre and Bermuda Healthcare Services as a General Practitioner for another 3 years. Dr. Opoku-Akoto has been practicing medicine for over seventeen years with over ten years as a General Medical/Family Practitioner responsible for Consulting of patients with undiagnosed problems, screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illnesses as part of primary prevention, Instituting of appropriate management and interpretation of results, developing Care Plans with patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension, as a means to ensure the best long-term outcome for patients and enhance compliance among several other responsibilities. Dr. Opoku-Akoto, working as the CEO and Chief Medical Officer of Accra Medical Centre, has since the commencement of business in 2011, effectively combined her clinical skills with her administrative competencies to successfully grow the patient base of the Accra Clinic to almost 4000 patients since inception in 2012.
